Our Yoga for the Special Child Practitioners
Denisa is an Advanced Trained Yoga Teacher in the Sivananda Tradition of Classical Hatha Yoga. After her mother’s passing from cancer, Denisa met Sonia Sumar who she regards as her real Teacher and Guide in the path of yoga. Denisa trained in Yoga for the Special Child® - the Sonia Sumar method in 2009 and has been following Sonia’s teachings ever since.
Bianca is a trained yoga teacher in Traditional Hatha Yoga and also trained with Sonia Sumar in Yoga for the Special Child in May 2016. Bianca is now teaching at MahaDevi every Thursday.
Outreach Yoga for the Special Child Practitioners
Jaya has been training with Sonia Sumar since Sivakami first came to London in 2002, and has had the honour of studying with her in Brazil, India and New York. Jaya has been a practitioner and advocate of the YSC® method working in both schools and in the community using the Yoga for the Special Child® method with children from birth to adulthood.
Jacob is a Primary School Teacher at a special school in West London and trained with Sivakami Sonia Sumar in 2012. He has been working with children with a variety of special needs for the past four years. He is currently teaching in MahaDevi and as an outreach teacher whilst he is also completing his Masters Degree in Yoga History and Meditation.
After completing his British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Course and additional 200 hour classical Hatha Yoga Training, Ben trained under the guidance of Sonia Sumar and regularly teaches Yoga for the Special Child® at Maha Devi Yoga Centre.
Amanda has been a qualified British Wheel of Yoga teacher since 2008. She attended the Yoga for the Special Child® training in London in 2012 and have since attended further training with Sonia Sumar in London, South India and Portugal. Over the years Amanda has enjoyed teaching group classes to teenagers with autism in schools and working 1:1 with a wide variety of children and their individual needs.
Aphrodite has more than 10 years experience working with children and adults with special needs. At the moment she works as a Special Needs Teacher at a school in North London.
Since training with Sonia Sumar in April 2015, Aphrodite has been teaching yoga for adults and children with Special needs regularly at MahaDevi.
Jo originally trained with Birthlight UK to teach baby yoga and has been teaching the Yoga For the Special Child programme for nine years, Her son Theo suffered a brain injury after contracting meningitis at four-months-old and has complex special needs so he was her first student and her motivation to train.
Jo is based in Cheshire, in North West England and teaches at a variety of venues including her home studio.
